Here is my situation, and I am just trying to figure out what to do in regards to my upcoming trip to Egypt. I will be arriving really early in the morning [1am] and am not sure if I want to spend the money to get a hostel for a few hours or just wait in the airport. I figured someone here might have some insight for me.
Here is how my schedule is going to be for the few days prior:
First day: Flying out at about 1pm, layover, red eye over night. Second day: Arriving in Athens at 10:30am, 12 1/2 hour layover while going site seeing, leave at 11pm Third day: Arrive in Cairo at 1am [3 hour flight], in the morning hire a taxi and go to Saqqara, Memphis, and Dahshur.
My options are the following for what to do after I get to the airport:
Taxi into Cairo and get a cheap hostel with a private room [booked beforehand], hopefully for 4 hours of sleep [3am-7am] then go to my hotel that is booked for the first night of my tour to drop my bags off. [Probably $25 total]
Wait in the airport til 6am and take the cheap bus into the city and either walk to the hotel or get a cheap taxi and arrive by 7am. [couple dollars]
Wait in the airport til 6am and take a taxi into the city and get dropped off at the hotel, drop my bags off, and go site seeing [$10]
I am leaning towards the first option, but I am not sure. I mean it would only be $20, which isn't much. I am just not sure what would be the best idea. Any thoughts?
