Has anyone been to Riga lately. I was only wondering if being from outside of the EU, is it a mandatory thing to have health insurance to enter the country. I'm from Canada and have been in the UK for over a year and a half and my 1-year insurance I bought back home has now obviously expired. I am just wondering if I am going to need anything to get into the country other than my passport? Any tips/info would be greatly appreciated!!
I was just in Riga a couple months ago. Beautiful city - Old Town is spectacular. As far as health insurance, I was never asked if I had it. I'm corporate aircrew, for us no visas or anything weird was required.
Watch out for the "bars." A few of us were talked into going into a club right in the middle of Old Town. We entered and sat down for a couple beers. Some of the bar girls talked to us asked us to buy them drinks. Like idiots, we let them order and ended up getting hit with a bill for $1200 US for 5 glasses of non-alcoholic wine while 10 HUGE Latvian guys came out the friggen woodwork and wouldn't let us leave until the bill was paid. Put a bit of a damper on the evening.

Other than that unfortunate event my memories of Riga were very positive.
