Everyone seems to have very unique traditions and ways to celebrate the day the day they were brought upon this earth.

What are some of the things you do (or have done) to recognise your special day?

I always go out for dinner with my family and I order BBQ ribs.

And I always go to this crappy nightclub in Dublin. It used to be a regular for us when we were students and then it became my birthday place. When I got back from traveling this Christmas I was saying that I didn't know where to go for my b-day because obviously we couldn't go there anymore now that all my friends are grown ups. But they all scoffed at me and said of course we're going there. That's friends.

I love all the fuss made by family and friends for my birthday! party.gif

My birthday is only a few days before Christmas, so all the excitement for me takes place in less than a week. As a child, my parents often combined my birthday/Christmas gifts, which were always wrapped in Christmas paper. I used to resent this very much.

But today is a far different story now that my sons are all adults. For many years I drove from one home to another to enjoy lunches and dinners with them, taking two full days to complete, and then do it all over again at Christmas, plus the invitations of friends for lunch, but soon this became exhausting for me and no longer fun. So nowadays my sons all gather together in one home on my birthday and Christmas and put on a spendid dinner, complete with beautiful gifts, and I have all my sons and their wives and children in one place to enjoy. This is a marvellous idea and I enjoy both days thoroughly.

I also receive phone calls and emails from friends and other relatives, so I feel completely spoiled in December. Love it!

That nearly made me spit out my drink!

I like to get a crew together and get up north for a portaging/camping trip if I can, but it only works out every so often. If I'm home I just do the usual; dinner with friends and/or family and then normally there are some bevvies in that equation later on. Nothing over the top.
This year I am planning on doing a flying trapeze class with some friends! I've always wanted to do it and it's actually going to work out! It's a two and a bit hour class, and they teach you how to swing from one trapeze to the other and at the end you get swung from one trapeze and then someone catches your arms and you swing to the other. Exciting!

My young years were like that: my birthday was more than often on the day of going back to school crying_anim02.gif (or else in that week). No much to rejoice about, hey?

This year my birthday fell on a Saturday so I felt extra lucky. I think that a Saturday birthday means it will be a good year.

The past two years I have been having a joint birthday party "event" with two other girlfriends of mine. At the time of year it falls on, everyone seems to be starving for a party to take their minds off the winter blahs. Last year it was a giant house party, this year we had made more friends so had to have it at a restaurant lounge and it looks like next year we are going to have to rent a hall. That is, ofcourse, if I am in the country wink.gif

One of my best Bdays was when I turned 24 and I got surprise dinner party. It's super hard to keep secrets from me but somehow my boyfriend and best friend managed to do it. I was so happy I cried.

You know what? I do nothing. Never have. Is that wrong?
Can I blame my parents? Almost never had parties, even as a kid. Maybe cause I'm twin and we were enough hassle without mixin' it up with a party. Can't say. I have even missed my own birthday. Don't even know any of my friends birthdays. As I read this, I think, maybe I should ask...

same as steve, but i do that the next morning.

last year i was at lake ohrid, macedonia. no hostels so i was by myself. had dinner by myself. had a drink by myself. then went to the i-net cafe as the nightlife consisted of cafes (couples and groups in conversation). ya, it was kind of a lame birthday.
