I just got this in my email, put your stories in this forum and then I'll send them along:

"Hello -- If you have ever filed a travel insurance claim, I invite you to
e-mail an anecdote that I'd potentially incorporate into a Fox News.com
travel column on How to Navigate the World of Travel Insurance. Short
anecdotes -- a few sentences -- are fine. What I'd want to know is: --How
you researched and bought the travel insurance. --If you filed a claim,
what your experience was. If your experience was positive, please give
details about how the insurance paid off for you; if your experience was
negative, likewise, please detail what happened -- were you tripped up by
certain rules or regulations or did the carrier in some other way not pay
off or disappoint you? Any input I incorporate would include attribution,
including your name, profession, and home state, so kindly supply that info
if you're sending an anecdote. Many thanks, Paul Eisenberg Column

I've (luckily) never had to use my travel insurance but I read an article in this morning's paper and it was a bout a woman who c=got admitted to hospital whilst travelling but the insurance wouldn't pay anything because of a "whole life" policy they had. It meant that if the person had previously had the illness/ injury AT ANY TIME in their life, then it wasn't covered. Talk about being ripped off! I can understand pre-existing conditions but having an illness again that you had when you were 5 years old and you're now say, over 40, seems a bit rediculous.

Oh, and touch wood about not having used it myself, haha

Only had to use my travel insurance once, my first trip overseas. After getting our hire car around England, Scotland and Wales unscathed (despite the narrow roads in Wales) we spent the last night in England at a pub near Heathrow Airport as we had an early flight to Dublin the next morning.

Got up and packed the car in the dark then drove across to the hire car depot at the airport only for them to point out a dent and "footprint" in the back of the car. Someone decided to kick the back of the car while it was in the pub carpark overnight.

Needless to say the car hire company seized the entire £500 security deposit they held on our credit card.

When we got home a month or so later we lodged our insurance claim to get the security deposit back as we had coverage for car hire damage excess. The insurance company paid up promptly and due to exchange rate changes we actually got a little bit more back than we paid. smile.gif

I sent Mr. Woz this question via email, but I don't think he's gotten it yet.

Tyga: Great story! It's so rare that I hear any good news travel insurance stories...
