Hi, I am supposed to be meeting my friends in Bangkok as they are currently in sydney, but they have informed they are staying til the 4th of may in sydney then coming to bangkok and invited me to join. I really want to but I have been flight searching and it looks like it'l cost around£500! which I tihnk is a joke considering you can get to Sydney from London for about £600!

I was just wondering if there was any reason for this or alternative?

I mainly just wanted to vent my frustration ha

You could always fly with Air Asia from Kuala Lumpur. They have flights (one way) to Melbourne every day next week for £152. Wouldn't cost much to fly from Melbourne to Sydney.

Rich sounds like he has a good idea there.

The reason why flights from London to Sydney are cheap, are simply because of economies of scale...

More people want to go from London to Sydney, so they are able to fill bigger planes with more people, thus costing the airline less money per person to fly them all. Usually, this cost savings gets passed down to the consumer.

There are many other more complicated reasons for this price discrepancy, but this is the main idea.

I say, don't let it bother you. If you want to go to Bangkok, go to Bangkok, don't look at the prices of flights to other places. Bangkok is not London, so you can't compare the price. If you can afford it, suck it up and go.

ok kind of stuck again, anyone know of a cheap/quick way from bangkok to kuala lumpar?

thanks

also i was wondering how much i would spend in south east asia over a period of about 7 or 8 weeks? i know its a vague question, but i was planning on spending about £10 on accomodation per night, is this unrealistic, what is the quality like for £10? can i get decentish accom for less than that outside the major cities, just in terms of your run of the mill hostel type thing?

thanks

£10 is plenty for accomodation in southeast asia.

Here's a few examples of places in Bangkok:

Sort it by price and see what you get.
