Just wondering if anyone knows of a cheap(er) airline within China - kind of like a Ryan Air/Jet Blue type. We're just needing flights from Beijing - Xi'an - Shanghai.

QUOTE(Guest @ May 9 2006, 11:02 PM) *

I'm taking the opportunity to ask for comparison between train and low cost plane in china. Any special reason against the train?

Jenn, just in case:
Train: Beijing-Xian from 83 USD; Xian-Shangai from 75 USD

There's no cheap airlines in Chine yet. I've lived one year in China and from my experience the flights you're looking for would be around 800 to 1200 Chinese RMB for one way. Note that in mainland China you buy one ticket per sector therefore you need two tickets for a return trip. From flights from Shanghai try Shanghai Airlines from Hongqiao Airport (Domestic flights) and also Air China. I think those would be the best options.

Just a little tip, irrelevant to your itinerary Jenn, but someone here might find it useful. If you're flying to Hong Kong from mainland China, then instead look for fares to Shenzhen, which is just over the border inside China. The flights can be half the price of those to Hong Kong. From Shenzhen it's then a few short stops on a KCR train into Hong Kong.
