Hey everyone,
I am hopefully studying in China next year, and I was wandering if there was a website or something that I can do courses, in result getting a certificate that i can teach English to someone as their second language.

I've heard of useful websites.

Thanks in advance. biggrin.gif

Do not worry! Teaching methology is good, but the very fact that you are a native speaker, and English will pour out you in spite of anything is a very valuable thing.
10 years ago I took a course of English in Russia. My teacher was a very young Canadian girl. She was not an experience teacher and some times was taken away by her memories of Toronto, home, Great Lakes… and these things I appreciated most of all, better than any grammar exercises.

Cheers from the learner-of-English-as-a-second-language!

Hello Kate,
Thanks for your advice, I'm happy to hear that a certificate/degree isn't needed. I think i'd be good as a teacher haha. And my English is quite good.
Is it possible to chose an Age/level to teach english at? I think it'd be good if i was able to teach someone who was learning english, but already knew basics, as i know little of their language.

Here is what I've found for you. http://www.englishfirst.com/trt/teaching-e...h-in-china.html
This English First also works in my place (Russia, St. Petersburg) and has a good reputation. They have the same approach as the company which once taught me. In my case they did not waste native speakers for teaching the beginners. They had well tested Russians for that.

Oh! Thank you very much, this seems like a wonderful idea, i hope they wouldn't mind that i haven't got a Degree. I will definitely think about this.
They pick a good level for me to teach? would they give me the 'stuff' to teach?

For your information, there are a number of different English language schools in all the major cities in China and once you're here it is easier to visit these centres to check out possible employment opportunities. In most cases, they tend to have a set curriculum you are supposed to follow.
You should also know that getting a Working visa is not always that easy and in many cases people teach on a tourist visa and have to make monthly trips out of the country to renew the visa. This can be a hassle. I think that depending on the language school, they may help you get a Z-visa but it is often not a simple process.

I guess visiting would be a good decision in this case, thank you.
I have read that it is possible for the University i would be studying Mandarin at can allow me to teach for a period of time, cutting costs of the Mandarin course and also will help me learn Mandarin by interacting, benefits them also as i can teach english.

Thanks for the tips

Haven't contacted them.
I like the decision of visiting school etc. when i arrive there. I'm traveling to China first, end of this year, and then i'm studying there next year. I was curious to if i needed a certificate/degree to teach, but now I see that is not a major requirement,
Thanks for all your help. smile.gif
