Hi people,

I want to study Chinese and Mongolian language and get kind of certificate. I have already been studying these languages at my home country (mongolian 4 years, chinese 2 years)

I can do this either in Mongolia (but a lot of bureaucracy applies)
or in China, Inner Mongolia province (chinese visa are easy to get)

Does anybody know how much paperwork, how much money for living, how expensive is private accomodation (1 room appartment)?

Both places have tuition fees for about 1800$ a year, but what about the living costs in Hohhot?

Basically, your question is... what is the cost of living in Hohhot and somewhere in Mongolia?

I'm pretty sure both places are really cheap and probably comparable.

I'd go with China since there is less bureaucracy.

I was talking to somebody who'd worked in Inner Mongolia recently who suggested that because of the large numbers of Han migrants, most people aren't going to talk Mongolian, especially in the cities. They'll talk a local version of Mandarin or dialect which isn't going to help your Mandarin or Mongolian much outside the classroom.

I can't be sure about that, but maybe you need to do a bit of homework and decide which language is your priority. It may be you need to go to Mongolia for Mongolian or somewhere else in China for Mandarin.

The cost of living is quite cheap in Inner Mongolia, but it does lack certain amenities, but the culture, people, and sites make up for it. It is an amazing place. Be prepared for very harsh winters though.

I went there a few years ago and loved it. I also loved the traditional local foods, which I guess is unusual because most visitors don't. I've been studying Manchurian for years, which is quite similar to Mongolian.

If you go, it'll change your life. It is an amazing place.
