I'm looking to travel in Central Asia later in the year, and am having trouble finding out processing times and costs for several countries including Turkmenistan. also, as I plan to leave in 2 weeks (I will be traveling through Europe and Iran first) I am trying to find out whether or not I can get visas in Iran (either transit or tourist). Does anyone have ant ideas or know where I might get info short of going up to London? (the consulate in London does not appear to have a website)

You can get a transit visa, if you have a visa for Uzbekistan and if you are coming let's say Iran you can apply for transit visa in Turkmen Embassy in Mashed.

Or you can just travel in Ashgabat city, then you do not need a guide inside of Ashgabat. The guide will meet you in border and assist to get to Ashgabat and in Ashgabat you are alone.
