A survey of over 2,500 callers to The Gadget Helpline, a UK phone service that consumers having problems with broken electrical equipment can call for help, asked "what gadget makes you the happiest".

Here is the list:
1. Nintendo Wii
2. iPod
3. iPhone 3G
4. Xbox 360
5. Blackberry
6. Sky+
7. Mac Book
8. Nintendo DS
9. Tom Tom 930 Satellite Navigation System
10. Sony PRS-505 Reader

Is that the order you would pick or is there something missing? My MacBook would definitely be higher than #7!

I don't have any of those & I'm doing just fine. I don't let changing technology tell me what I need to be happy. I see teen-agers & how they would die without any of those things. I don't want to be like that.

Ugh, no!

I have no interest in games consoles... it really annoys me, why play Pro-Evolution soccer on a computer or Wii tennis... go out and play the flippin' real thing!

I also have the worst phone in the world and I'm so happy that I don't spend ages faffing about with ringtones and Bluetooth and all of that jazz.

The only one I have is an iPod, which is good, but not exactly essential.

The best "gadgets" that I have are definitely my laptop, camera, and USB stick... I think thats pretty much all I need.

As an old curmudgeon, none of these gadgets is in my top ten, in fact, I don't even know what half of them are. I'm with Sien, a computer, camera and a nice cup of tea.

P.S. I'm getting a USB stick as a present from my daughter, who I hope will tell me what it is.

Haha, it is genius. Basically, you can save files, pictures, music etc on it (up to a certain capacity), so then you can transfer them between computers. Pretty useful for travelling, and it also acts as a back up for some of your most important files, should your harddrive fail.

One thing to watch though, if using a public computer you can forget to take them out at the end of your session, and you might end up losing the stick. This happened to me about 3 times in the library last year!

Oh my god, that sucks!

At least it's better than those floppy disks we used to have to use...they would break just randomly and you could lose EVERYTHING. Unless of course you habitually emailed yourself your papers, or backed it up on your hard drive...

Do I sound old?

Well, I wouldn't equate gadgets with happiness, but I do like them, or some of them anyway.

We got the Wii in January. It came with Wii Sports and we bought the Wii Fit stuff. I have lost 4 pounds since then. We have no plans to buy other games for it.

I really like my iPod mini, which is already outdated, but works great for me.

Grandma got Nintendo DSs for my kids for this last Christmas. I got a French program to help me learn French, and it's fun. We limit how much the kids use them.

All in moderation I guess. But techno gadgets can be quite useful!

Are you referring to the 5 1/4" or 3 1/2" floppies?

Agreed ..... gadgets can bring convenience and entertainment but not real happiness. I tried out Wii for the first time not long ago and it sure is true that you can get a little workout, even just playing some of the sports. sweat.gif

5 1/4" floppies are seriously old school! I remember the library at school had a pc that used them and they were useless. Only held about 250kb! My pc at work doesn't even have a floppy drive any more sad.gif

I've only got 1 from that list, Xbox 360, and it is good. Actually I've got Sky+HD as well so that's 2! biggrin.gif

You aren't kidding about old school ... remember when 1 MB was considered a lot of memory?
Yes, the days of the floppy have certainly gone the way of records and 8-tracks. Hmmmm ... I wonder wonder if they will end up becoming collector items??

What is Sky+HD?? unsure.gif

Yeah, I was referring to both of them actually. But in university I used 3 1/2" ones. Lost many a paper because of them.

Oh dear I must be old, I do remember using floppy disks and they were a nightmare.

I also remember learning how to do spreadsheets in the days you had to know the codes yourself biggrin.gif

I've not got any of those actual top 10 gadgets- but I guess I've got versions of then in one way or another.

I have heard these little cams are very popular now and so convenient. However, if I were to get a video camera, I would want something with higher resolution. Don't think you can beat Flip video for the price however.
