Haha! I work for TravelPod! And really, I don't get THAT much vacation time... (3 weeks)

I was lucky this summer that I had the option for a compressed workweek. So I did that a lot and went on quite a few three-day road trips with my new motorcycle.

On the work side of things: If you need any help with your blog, or if you have any questions about traveling, I'm here and I'll do my best to get your questions answered.

Grad student living with the parents :-D. Anytime school is out I am allowed to take off (tentatively), so I am going to Vegas, Egypt/Jordan, Florida for certain. Then when I get done I am going to take about 8 months off to travel and start a website before funding real work. (All depends on money of course). Guess the benefit of me working 40-50 hour weeks when I am only supposed to work 20 is that they cannot complain when I request time off every once and a while.

I am a teacher so it is a must that I travel 5-8 weeks each summer with smaller trips on spring break and/or winter vacation. This is why I have this job!!!

I co-own a company and I have taken a year off and am leaving the place in the capable hands of my business partner and our lovely staff. This is making up for five years of working almost non-stop. ;-)

I checked out your proposed itinerary and it sounds fun.

In Washinton DC make sure you go to the top of the Old Post Office for fabulous 360 views that not many people ever know about.

In Washington try to go to Olympia National Park. Nearby Olympia is the Puget Sound which is equally beautifl. It is fabulous. Also, before making your way down from Seatle to Mt St Helens stop at Leavenworth. it is a Bavarian town with the streets lined with wine tasting rooms and beer gardens. If you are in to it there are also some adventurous rivers for white water rafting.

Originally i had a "plan" as to where i was going but ive come to realize that even best laid plans seem to "change" themselves but i am heading to America , Mexico and New Zealand. After that i want to go to Canada + Alaska beyond that who knows... i refuse to set anything in concrete though, all i know is about this time (or earlier) next year i am setting foot on a plane and off i go

In my mind, long term is travelling for a few years or taking an open ended ticket, not knowing when you are coming back.

I work in Tokyo and currently my job is pretty busy so travel is out of the question. Still... my boss is good so when things slow down I get to ask for time off and it's usually granted. Still it's hard graft and I want to be free to travel more so I'm trying to establish my own wee business at the moe and hope that in a couple of years I can replace my income and be responsible for me! Not just that, the business will be web based so I can be anywhere yes.gif

Now maybe I can't pull it off but it's one hell of a goal in my opinion and I'm going to do my darndest to make it work. I guess I'll always have itchy feet and want to make the most of my time on this beautiful planet of ours.

Cheers and all the best,

Ooh - ta for the tips! I think that I am changing my Western coast itinerary a little bit and flying from Seattle to San Fran so that I can drive to coast road from San Frna to San Diego instead. I can't believe that I am leaving in two and a half weeks and I still have finalised what I will be doing! Still going to Washington DC though, so I will add your ideas to my book. Cheers. smile.gif

I'm a nurse. Requesting for a vacation at work is by seniority. Plus I have small children. So we always shoose our dates when the school is out.
