Well, let's face it, if you can't travel too far it can be nice to visit a nearby city with scores of different cultures to be able to experience something out of the far-too-ordinary. And you can. Toronto, just outside of my home, is full of ethnic pockets with great markets and restaurants and a chance to delve a little deeper into numerous different aspects of many different ethnic groups.

So. Top multicultural cities in the world are;

Los Angeles

Toronto

New York

London

Also up there are Sydney, Melbourne and L.A.

What can we add here?

Have you had any great experiences in any really multicultural cities?

Yeah London is ridiculous for this - if you closed your eyes and woke up on the underground you could probably be in any city in the world, I love it, it makes me feel like I'm on holiday.

In Manchester they have the curry mile in Rusholme which is just a milelong street of Asian supermarkets, restaurants and takeaways... funny how one mile can literally take you thousands of miles away.

In addition to the ones you've mentioned I'd also put in a mention for San Francisco, Vancouver and Berlin, all of them amazing cities that are amazing precisely because they're so diverse.

That's how I felt in some parts of San Fran's Chinatown. It was awesome.

Canada's most populous city, Toronto, is composed of many ethnic neighborhoods. Some sites on the city can break it down for you.

I would add Chicago and San Diego from the US.

Internationally, I would add Paris. I was only there 2 days, but it felt very diverse.

Nice, but so far, only places with discrete pockets of ethnicity and a white majority were mentioned. In cultural diversity, people mix all together without much regard for separation of ethnic groupings. Majorities tend to (unintentionally) supress full expression of other cultures. Not that that's bad, it just tends to limit multiculturalism.

L.A. is 29.3% non-Hispanic white, New York is 35.1% non-Hispanic white, San Francisco is 45% non-Hispanic white, Chicago is 30.9% non-Hispanic white, San Diego is 49.3% non-Hispanic white. You're right about the other cities mentioned having a white majority but in some cases (Toronto and Vancouver) it's not by much and due to shifting demographics likely won't last long. I guess what I'm saying is that yes, all the cities mentioned are Western but that doesn't mean they're predominantly white. These are definitely multi-cultural cities, even if the country they're in is predominantly white, in every sense of the word, not just in the sense of having relatively large numbers of minorities.

I am a bit late but Houston has overtaken the 2nd spot in the USA as the most diverse, ethnic or international city, NYC is still No.1. The city speaks 8 different languages. Recently, a report I read said they have 3 chinatowns, vietnamese, japanese, korean, spanish sections, etc.

Hello Community,

New Orleans has been multicultural for so long that its own culture is multicultural! Food, Mardi Gras, and Jazz define New Orleans, and they are a mixture of French, English, and Black.

Thanks and Regards,

I have driven through N'orleans but never stayed over. I want to get to Montreal someday since a big (or majority of) population speaks French
