Linda.chung asked me today which websites are safe. I told her that it depends, and I listed off a bunch of sites that I would use if I was booking travel online...

Honestly, I could only think of three...

Expedia, Hotels.com, Travelocity...

Anything else, I don't think I would use...

For flights, I usually try to book through the airline, but not always...

How do you book your flights and travel stuff?

99% of the time I book through the Airline / Accomodation directly. I've used lastminute.com, ebookers and expedia too, which were fine.

I usually get a pretty nice deal on these. I'd love to see Google work on a site like this. Possibly using Google Maps to show where it's going.

Interesting topic, never really thought about it. I generally use any site without much thought, generally for the the best value or because it's the most appropriate at the time. Can't say I really trust the big names or distrust the little ones, just take what I need.

I have been issued an electronic airline ticket and not sure whether it is trustworthy onot. by cathay pacific

Why would it not be 'trustworthy? Linda you really shouldn't worry so much..

Yup, that's pretty much how I operate too. If I feel iffy about a site I'd probably just look into it a bit more in depth, see if I can find anyone that's used it etc but for the most part I book what I need where it's most affordable. I've used e-tickets several times through airlines and never ha d a problem.

I've used nothing but e-tickets for the last few years and never had a problem. If you're really nervous just print out a copy of your receipt to take with you to the airport - but that's more for your own peace of mind really.

I tend to use whatever - although flights I tend to go through the airline website because longer trips I've always booked through travel agents so I can get discounts on travel insurance. I did get stuck once buying a bus ticket online and they had a go at me cos I hadn't printed the receipt even though I had written down the confirmation number.

Yeah you're right, Rachel, I never print out my tickets...I just write down the confirmation number, and make sure I have my ID with me when I'm traveling.

Side note: I am traveling with such a nervous person this Christmas holiday, and I printed out our tickets...it came to SEVEN pages!!!

I use Kayak.com to check which airline is the cheapest then I book directly with that airline.

I have use Orbitz also. The good thing about Orbitz if there is a flight delay or cancellation they will notify you or if you're waiting for your connecting flight you will know before the airline makes an announcement. By the time the airline make the announcement we already made changes with customer service.

Our next trip will be Aruba. Been waiting for the airfare to go down. I've checked different websites and so far the cheapest I found is through Travelpod.

I research the Alaska Airline site for flights & YMCA site for accomodations. For other details about my destination, I Google the local underground. I look for info which most tourists never see, what's common to locals, & away from the mainstream.

I work in a hotel myself, in the sales department... and in my opinion the best rates online for any hotel, except special negotiated rates for corporate accounts, (which are not available for leisure travelers) are best to be found by doing a hotel comparison check. I personally use

HotelsCombined

Easy, and fast. It will search all major booking sites, and showing you the best rates in one go.

I simply do a hotel search and pick/book the best deal. Simple as that, saved quite a bit of money and time. Trust me. Good luck!
