Pattaya is different from other beach resorts in Thailand, The city is awake after sunset, Nightlife in Pattaya unlike other cities, It is absolutely fun and unique especially in Walking Street in the center of entertainment, here you will see many pubs, discos, go go bars, dancers, ladyboy, and street entertainers located in South Pattaya, this is the most popular area amongst tourists and expats.

Everyone mentions the nightlife in Pattaya but Pattaya is also being marketed as a family destination. The same cheap hotels that make Pattaya a good deal for single tourists and backpackers also attract family groups, single women and women traveling in groups. As a cheaper alternative to the overpriced Phuket, Pattaya has been successful in attracting more and more family groups year after year. Evidence of this is the many modern malls that are available, two just opening up in the past couple years. These malls are better than many you find in the US. There are three modern, multi-screen, movie theaters too!

Transportation from Bangkok airport is easy to get; during the day a bus is cheapest at 124 baht. From Ekamai bus terminal, in Bangkok, a 2 hour bus ride is usually under 118 baht. Taxis and private transportation by group vans are also available. Late at night from Bangkok a taxi may be the next cheapest method to get to Pattaya.

Visit any one of the many modern malls in the evening and you will find lots of women tourists, some with kids. Many retirees from foreign countries also choose the Pattaya area because of the easy living, cheap accommodation, modern supermarkets - plus the cheap 10 baht transportation doesn't hurt either!

Walking Street is interesting for new tourists but it is also the most expensive nightlife in Pattaya. Pattaya has a long beach front, Pattaya Beach, and a long main road parallel to that beach, Pattaya Sai Song (Pattaya 2n Road) which has lots of nightlife all along both roads. Not to mention lots of good restaurants, malls, street vendors and hotels in all price ranges.

Best thing about Pattaya is if you don't care for it you can easily get back to Bangkok, and fly to Phuket or some other more expensive beach area.

Have fun.

i love how neither of you mention that this is the prostitution capital of the world, with 10's of thousands of girls selling themselves there every night. dont get me wrong, i can enjoy pattaya quite a bit but i think people need to know what they are getting themselves into when they go there. hedonistic chaos.

This always comes up in a discussion about Pattaya or Bangkok. I don't know about 10's of thousands of girls but there are a lot of beer bars and GoGo bars in Pattaya. Any simple Google check of "Pattaya Nightlife" will tell a tourist what to expect.

What you also get is cheap hotels in a beach setting. Good restaurants, cheaper than Bangkok and Phuket, lots of malls, street vendors, etc. Not to mention some of the cheapest transportation (10 baht) in Thailand. If you haven't been to Pattaya in years maybe it is time for another visit. They don't build so many modern malls in Pattaya just for backpackers and bar-hopping single tourists. Those malls are for family groups, couples and women shoppers more than just guys there for the nightlife!

Yes, there lots of bars in Pattaya. There are lots of bars in many countries across the world though, this is just one more place. You can also rent hookers in the US, Canada, Australia, Britain, Germany, Netherlands, etc. where it is legal - lots of places in the world not just Thailand! Everyone forgets that.

Is Thailand the top prostitution capital in the world?

Good luck.

There are certainly 2 sides to Pattaya. You'd be surprised how many families you see on the beach right next to all the freelancers. However the Caucasians families are often from tolerant countries where prostitution isn't illegal nor deemed strange.

I think any liberal person can have a lot of fun in Pattaya from a family, couple, single traveller. I've visited a number of times with GF as it's the closest beach to BKK airport. It's not the best beach by a long stretch, but if you want to visit bangkok for a few days then hit a beach and head home it's the perfect destination.

Koh Chang is a much better option for a nice beach and far quieter atmosphere. Though travel at wrong time of year you'll find it pretty dead.

Seems to me that Pattaya is pretty much like Thailand itself -- if you are looking for sleaze, you will certainly find it. But outside of the go-go strip, Pattaya is a pleasant beach-town destination with its own personality and charm.
