I happen to love travel movies. Adventures where the characters take a journey outside of their comfort zone and their country tend to be some of my favorites.

Here's my list. What is yours??

#1 - Under the Tuscan Sun (chick flick I know, but Tuscany is worth it!)
#2 - Bread and Tulips (Italian with English sub-titles)
#3 - A Good Year

I also found a list online:

I like movies about road trips. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas was great.

Under the Tuscan Sun

is what comes to mind at the moment.

I know there are others...just can't think of them right now.

I don't know if this thread relates to movies about travelling per se, or movies that inspire us to travel, which is what the link suggests. They are probably different for me - I think I relate more to the latter, and taking something from a film that personally connects with me. In that case Blood Diamond, Constant Gardener and Hotel Rwanda/Shooting Dogs are my faves because they still manage to portray Africa in a beautiful light despite the tragedy that goes on in all three.

I see Forrest Gump is on that list aswell... man, that film had me in flood of tears - travel or no travel, that film is and will always be immense to me.

Ooh, and I'm looking forward to the film interpretation of On the Road by Jack Kerouac... no idea when it will be coming out though, anyone heard anything?

i have to agree with Under the Tuscan Sun (even if its a chick flick) the movie made me want to buy a rundown villa in italy and restore it (if only i could)

Into The Wild is definately one of mine and like Sian i would say Blood Diamond (although it isnt a travel movie per se it does inspire travel for me)

Gerre, I agree, I wanted to buy a villa in Tuscany too (until I realized I didn't have 200k lying around!)

I also enjoyed Into the Wild and couldn't believe it was a real life story. Sad, but inspiring.

I haven't seen Stealing Beauty or a River runs through it, but'll put it on my to rent list. :-)

#3 - A Good Year

I just got that to watch.....

Into the Wild for sure. Constant Gardener for me too. And, though it has a mean cheese factor, Romancing the Stone is one of my childhood faves. I loved how clueless she was when she ended up in Columbia.

Thanks so much for the recommendation. I rented Stealing Beauty tonight and will watch it in a bit. Looking forward to it. :-)

Wakingdream, hope you like "A good year" as much as I did. Russell Crowe was great as always and the setting is wonderful.

Awesome, thanks! I never used to like him much but over the years I've realized that he is a really good actor. I also love Marion Cotillard. Looking forward to it.

I hope you love Stealing Beauty, Judy. I just want to cry that my life isn't so beautiful when I see it.

Started it last night, a beautiful movie so far. The setting in Italy is gorgeous. And I was surprised to see a few familiar faces. I had to get up early today, so didn't finish it. I look forward to finishing it tonight.

Romancing the Stone, definately! LOL what a cult movie that was growing up.

Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe and Gone with the Wind makes me want to travel to the Deep South....

French Kiss (I'm a romantic, so sue me)
Red Eye
Fifth element (if for nothing else than the awesome plane, the sleep compartments, and Chris Tucker flamboyantly strutting down all the aisles)

French kiss is a classic - really enjoyed it. I also just saw "Vicky Christina Barcelona." It was a little crazy, but very good. Definitely made me wish I could jump on a plane to Spain.

Sort of left field, but I'd say "Odd Man Out". It's an early 90's Snowboarding/Skating flick, following people all over Europe and the USA. Sort of like "Endless Summer" but with snow. Definitely a huge influence on my desires. Awesome soundtrack too.
