Hi,
my husband and I are planning to visit Argentina next year (April to June). We will be traveling with a rented camper all way down to Patagonia and then back on route 40 to the North. It is impossible and even not recommended to have too much cash with us. That means that we have to withdraw the money from ATM's or at banks and use Credit Cards. So I' ll appreciate any information about usage of ATM's, payments with credit cards, info about possible fees or surcharges on payment, money exchange, etc.
Thanks in advance!

Hi, Bibka! I am in BA right now, my first stop on my voyage through South America. Argentina, I must say, is not a cheap country anymore. I am not sure about USD rate, but here is my experience with ATM rates for EUR: I found no ATM that will let me redraw more than 1000 pesos and charges 19.20 or somethng, almost 20 pesos. Transaion is worth cca 161 EUR, rate 6..18 or less for 1 eur. Exchange offices will give around 7.3 (smaller amounts, up to 100 EUR) to 7.8 for bigger amounts. USD is also appreciated, I belive rates differ in the same way. But risk of havinig big amounts of cash on the road is too great. Maybe to combine card and cash would be wise choice. All the best!

Thank you for your reply, Zorica. Every information is useful as we don't have any experiences with this country, yet. I have visited your blog and will follow you there to get some more info, as we are interested for some other experiences as well. Enjoy your journey! flowers.png

We just returned from Argentina. We didn't use checks, only cash and credit cards. Last week the usage of credit cards in some cases havent't been accepted, so we have to withdraw cash. But even whitdrawal hapened to be a problem. It all depends where are you from and what kind of a card you have and where are you going to stay or travel. in small towns they usually accept only cash. To us, we are from Europe, most reliable bank seems Santander bank Atm. But the provision is very high, for 700$ ars you have to pay 32 $ars.
