does anyone here have any idea how to get from australia to indonesia by boat? [then on to thailand] i can't seem to find any info on this at all.. thanks °°•karen
Wish I could help you Karen. If you get any info, pls post it as I'm sure others would also be interested.
Where will you be starting from -- Australia? Maybe wander up to Darwin and hang around the docks there. Imagine there must be some traffic to Indonesia from there but would guess it might require sleeping on the deck of water craft that might not inspire you with its sea worthiness.
Have spent just two weeks in Java, Bali and South Kalimatan [Boprneo] a decade or so ago. It is one of the most fascinating areas I have visited and found the people the friendliest. Have had fantasies of returning there and trying my luck negotiating passage with local sea traders from island to island [not all 14,000+ of course.] Sulawesi is supposed to have some of the greatest Scuba diving in the world plus the Taraja in the highlands.
Your best bet is to try to get a job as crew on a yacht out of Darwin. If you have your competent crew certificate, you'll definitely have a good chance. If not, you are not out of luck as people will often still give you a ride in return for helping out on the boat.
