Hi everyone,

A friend and I are in Lima for three days before travelling on to our volunteer placement and were wanting suggestions on what to do for three days?

A few friends have travelled to Lima and though some have said its amazing, some have said its not a safe or nice city... I was wondering which of these is most accurate. We're staying in Miraflores as it seemed to be a relatively safe backpacker area.

We have heard and read about sandboarding and other trips around Lima but haven't got any personal accounts of how to do this or how worth it these sorts of trips are. We're not massively into museums so were thinking the vital museums we could get round in half a day or a day leaving us two days to do some more adventurous activities!?

Any help would be great!!

You can go to Parque de Las Aguas on Av. Arequipa - not the Miraflores en, the other end. It's a waterpark of syncronised fountains and some of them are really spectacular. Open Thurs-Sund from 7pm. Ace fun! There are some Jazz clubs, one called Jazz Zone on block 5 of Av. La Paz, Miraflores. The parks are beautiful and worth a stroll, from LarcoMar head down the coast to the Rosa Nautica (the restaurant on the pier), past it and the Park of Love (you'll know it when you get to it). Try a night downtown around the main square. Visit San Francisco catheral and the catacombs!
Sandboarding and dune buggying can be done in Ica - 4 hours south of Lima. Great experience. Take PeruBus from Av. Mexico which is inexpensive or try Cruz del Sur if you want more luxury and quicker service. Can be done in a day.
Visit Gamara if you are feeling brave - lots of cheap clothes. Polvos Azules is good for electrical goods and footwear.
A smile makeover and whitening at one of Lima's best dentists is another option - a good friend of mine works there.
You can take a boat from the port of Callao to visit the islands just off the coast - lots of sealions, sometimes penguins, tons of birds... wear a wide brimmed hat!
Ah, 3 days eh, you could fit most of that in. When do you arrive?
