Hello, in April 2011 I am visiting the USA with my family (2 Adults, 2 Kids (7 & 16)) we are flying into Las Vegas directly from Australia with a few plane changes along the way.

Our plan is to recover in Las Vegas for a day or two then hire a car and drive to the Grand Canyon, stay overnight on the South rim then drive to San Diego for a couple of days.

We arrive in Las Vegas on the 13th of April and need to leave San Diego on the 21st.

Here's my proposed route, I'd love any advice or comments on where I'm making a mistake - the roads look OK on my map!

13th Vegas
14th Vegas
15th Vegas
16th Drive to GC. overngiht GC
17th Drive to Wickenburg or Quartsite, overnight
18th Drive to San Diego, overnight SD
19th San Diego
20th San Diego
21st Finish

Any comments on places to stay, things to do, etc. are more than welcome. We're after a fun and not too expensive family vacation but I don't want to exhaust everyone.

Hi DIng

When in Vegas, try to visit the Valley of Fire (its very close by, and awesome at sunset). Further, i would not spend too much time at GC, IMHO its just a big hole in the ground, dry and hot and swarming with tourist choppers. We drove the Tioga pass, into Yosemite, and IMHO Yosemite is one of the prettiest places in CA.
