This is dedicated to all you 'brown sauce' lovers out there, you know who you are!

The very last British-made bottle of HP Sauce came off the production line in Birmingham on Friday after a century of being produced there.
Don't worry! It's not the last ever bottle.....

Heinz announced that it would shut down the company in Birmingham and start manufacturing in the Netherlands. They ensured that the taste will be the same. Phew! Or is this just a scandalous lie?

One British employee of the company had this to say;
"It's such a British icon," he said. "Nobody else likes HP Sauce like the British people. We just can't understand why it's being sent to Holland."
He also said; "I'm not sure … whether they can reproduce the taste like we can," he said.

Local businesses launched a "Save our Sauce" campaign and supporters held demonstrations outside the U.S. Embassy in Birmingham and in London.

Controversy! So, Brown Sauce Lovers, what do you think? Is it a sad day? Will the taste be reproduced? Will there be a revolt?! Things seem to be getting heated......

Thanks Suze, at least now I've found something useful I can put on the other thread about my home town.. thumbsup.png

Oh and before I forget: bacon sandwich on soft white bread with lashings of HP, heaven on earth..

I would suggest a boycott of HP Sauce but unfortunately Heinz have us by the short and curlies - it tastes too damn nice tongue.gif The taste will not change a bit - the anger seems to be aimed at yet another "British Institution" being shipped out of the UK to "Johnny Foreigner" wink.gif

So kinda illogical really - but most passions are.... wink.gif

That happens here alot, and more and more these days, only we ship 'em out to Mexico for some really cheap labour, possibly the child variety. Nothing like exploiting the poor to make our goods and make our fortunes. Woo-hoo.

To the dutch!?! There are only two people I hate in this world - those who are intolerant of other people's cultures, and...

Myself? Only sometimes. And twice on tuesdays. I guess I was fishing with a horrible austin powers quote: 'people who are intolerant of other people's cultures, and...the dutch!' Terrible, I know, but the context fit for me. At the time. Now it is horribly skewed. blow.gif
