I happen to think the transport is pretty reasonable. We just purchased travelcards everyday which covered all our getting around on the Underground. Cost £5.10 for a 1 day travelcard (Zones 1+2). We got a taxi back at 4am from a club back to Piccadilly (from Farringdon) and it cost £12 which was reasonable between 4 people.

Yeah fair enough the travelcard works out great if you are doing numerous journeys, but I just had to do a single trip and it cost something like £4...more than a day pass in any city in Japan (which I was naturally comparing it to having only recently returned).

Agreed re: the price of alcohol, though not quite in Norway's £6 a 'pint' league just yet!

I spent £5.50 for a pint in Roppongi lol never again! Checked my balance and I spent £235 over the 2 days. In 10 days in Japan I spent £400 exc 7 day rail pass and flights there of course.

Lucky you, I went to Peru this year - actually last year now!! It was fantastic.

I've got several trips booked for this year, the most exciting one being Tanzania & Zanzibar - can't wait!

Sounds good Scott. I wish I had got over to Tassie but ran out of time. I'm off to Prague next month which should be a good laugh. Then nothing for a few months as I need a new passport!

You'll like Prague, was there in 2003. In the same boat regarding the passport. Time is ticking..

We went to Rome in September. We've joked that our next vacation will be to get ice cream in the next town.

But actually we're dreaming about maybe driving around Huron and Superior, visiting some friends in Perry Sound on the way, and maybe doing it all with long-lost friends.

Well, my next holiday is in four weeks time - its pretty much been given to us, so never one to turn down a good thing we are going to Tenerife. Most people I know have said can't imagine you there, but I am determined to prove that there is more to this island than the few coastal resorts most people can name on the south coast!!

I booked my trip to Turkey this week. What was I waiting for? I depart the US on June 9 and will be traveling for 13 days. I am really excited. Turkey has been at the top of my list for a few years now.

Now to find affordable airfare from D.C. or NY. Any ideas?

i'm off to nepal for 6 weeks next month. we got a cheap flight from bangkok to calcutta (53quid), then will train it to delhi via varanasi and agra. fly from there to kathmandu for 60quid.

meet up with friends in kathmandu and then trek for most of the time. after that, me and my mate are off to tibet for a couple of weeks, and then aim to spend a month travelling around china by train (hopefully without the crush going on now!)... then i'm travelling back to the uk for a month or so, try to get some drug trial staff or volunteer work, renew my thai visa, and ship back out in june.

btw, scary to say, but i had a dream tonight which you, scott, were in - we were shooting the breeze and drinking sangsom rum.... smile.gif

hell, i forgot to say i'm nipping over to laos for a week with my girlfriend - she got her first passport and wants to go to vientiane in honour of the memory of her mother, who was born there. we'll travel about a bit as well. but it's going to depend a little on how long we're stuck in bangkok at the british embassy trying to get her a tourist visa - i want to send her home while i'm travelling so she can improve her english, meet the family and experience western culture (oh dear). then she is aiming to get a nursing job in australia.

nice one stuart smile.gif
first thing i'd say, is get the flights sorted sooner rather than later - we've had a bit of an ordeal, but the price is totally worth the grief.
if i remember correctly, one was with air india express (bkk-kolkata) and the other was jet airways (delhi-kathmandu)
