Hi there

I was just working on an entry and mistakenly (wrong key stroke) wiped my entry. Then, autosave occurred. Not very helpful. Is there a way to access previous saves? Or to turn the autosave option off in this situation.

That's a very good point. This issue of 'toggling' the feature has been raised before. Guys, that's another good example. Can we look at this?

Hi Bernadine,

I'm sorry to hear that you lost your entry. Where you editing an existing entry that had previously been saved or was it a new entry?

If you accidentally keystroke your entry into emptiness again, the simple solution is to click the Undo button in the toolbar of the editor (the little curved arrow curving left) or by pressing control-Z, which is the keyboard shortcut for Undo.

Hi Scott,

The auto-backup feature does not overwrite a previously saved entry; it makes a separate copy. If Bernadine had left the Edit Entry page right after the entry was blanked out, she would have lost all her changes that she had made. This would have been equally unfortunate depending on how much she had written.

There is still the case that you have come across when you have multiple tabs open that can get confusing, but in general leaving the auto-backup feature enabled will save the most amount of words without adding any more options.

It's always a balance that we contemplate here at TravelPod: more options/more complexity VS fewer options/less flexibility. Unfortunately there will always be edge cases that make a strong case for both sides.

Thanks as always for your input.

Hi there

Thanks for responding. Unfortunately the con-Z did not work otherwise I would have been happy. And then it auto-saved.

How do I access the previous save?

Thanks.

Hi Bernadine,

I checked through the system and unfortunately I couldn't find your entry.

If it occurs again, please try to use the Undo icon in the editor's toolbar, although control-z should also work correctly.

In the mean time we'll work to improve the feature so that this doesn't happen anymore.

The same thing just happened to me, too. I had just added a couple sentences to a previously saved entry and then the computer went crazy and erased the whole thing. It Autosaved, and now the enry iis blank! So there's no way to get it all back?

Thanks,
Warren

So, does this mean there's no hope, or are you searching the system for it? smile.gif
Thanks for your help. It would be great to find it, as I haven't been able to get online much and would take awhile to get it up again, but no worries if you can't get it. Thanks again!
Warren

Hi Warren,

It's been a really busy week with the launch of the new redesign. It should be in our backups but i can take a while to load them because they're such huge files.

We'll let you know as soon as possible.

Happy travels!

Argh! I've gone and done the same, I closed the browser quick to hopefully avoid the Autosave, but it had saved. This of course means I couldn't use the Undo button, I did however try Ctrl-Z and nothing happened.

Any chance you can restore or send me the text from

http://www.travelpod.com/dashboard/entry/1/1285436377

Thanks

Maybe a option to look at last or old versions maybe a good idea, but as a programmer I know that is easier said than done.

Is there a way to turn off or change the frequency of auto save?

Problem is with laptops the touch pad can get knocked, moving the cursor to highlight a chunk of text then the next keystroke deletes the text

Why didn't ctrl-z work, is it a Chrome issue?

Very strange! I don't understand why ctrl-z doesn't work. I'll have to take a closer look and get back to you about that. I was just testing the scenario you described and if you hadn't closed the window you could have clicked the undo button in the toolbar and it would have been ok. Once you've closed the window, the under buffer is erased.

I'll ask one of the developers to see if he can get your entry back.

Hang tight.

Hi Candice,

Oh no. Sorry to hear that. We'll have a look.

If that happens again, you should be able to use the Undo button in the editor to get your text back.

Hi,

We checked and found your initial *creation of the entry* but found no updates with text. I'm sorry but we can't restore your entry.

We will run some tests to try to figure out what happened. If we find a bug we will correct it right away, but it could have been one of those internet hiccups that can never be explained!

Cheers!
