Have you ever been stranded at the airport, with your airline ticket basically useless and no way to get to where you want to go??

This year, as with a number of winter holidays in the past, thousands of travelers have been stranded at airports in the United States and Canada. We got a major dump of snow!!!

Washington - Winter storms roared across large swathes of the United States and Canada, dumping several centimetres of snow, throwing Christmas travel plans out of gear and causing power outages Monday. Holiday travellers were stranded in the north-eastern and north- western US, over the weekend and on Monday, after flights were delayed or canceled and icy highways were shut down.

How disappointing, especially during the holidays, to be stranded with no way to get to your destination! I've never been left high and dry at the airport but I know plenty of you have!

Post your stories of abandonment! Tell us what you did. Rescheduled your flight and waited it out? Made the best of it and changed your plans? Hunkered down in complete and utter fury and cursed the weather/airlines and life in general???

Living in Florida, we don't have these horrible things, just a hurricane every now and ten. Anyone that leaves Florida and goes north for the holidays is foolish.

So, people who live in cold places usually like to go somewhere warm for trips. Is that the opposite with people who live somewhere warm? I think I know the answer to that.... smile.gif do people seek different weather from what they're typically living in? Or just warm weather?

In June 2006, I got stranded in Newark coming back from Europe because of rainstorms and flooding in the southeast. We almost rented a car with some folks from Florida and drove all the way down. Luckily, since we were international travelers, we got selected first for standby on the next flight...if not, I have no idea what I'd have done. So, unfortunately, air travel problems can happen even when it isn't snowing!

I am proud to say that I have never been stranded before!

Only on Christmas Eve, I had a bus transfer in Toronto, and we were stuck for about 1.5 hours too long.

Never been stranded either.

Living in Florida, do I look to visit cold places? Not really! I like the warmth. Nevertheless it's a novelty for us to see snow, so I've been to Montreal in the dead of winter just to experience the frigid cold, though it is sure nice to know that in a few days you will be back in the balmy breezes of South Florida.

We plan to visit Prague later this year, in November. That's because of the lower airfares, not the climate.

People say I'm crazy when I say I want to go to Nunavut in the middle of winter...
