I am thinking about doing some volunteer job in Africa. Is that possible that you do not pay anything just go there and work?

I think that's a great question, domjani. I honestly have no idea. I believe that this would depend on where you are coming from?

For example, if you are a U.S. citizen, you could work with the Peace Corps, or if you are Canadian, the best organization to work with would be CIDA.

Where do you live?

It is possible, but you will have to look hard! Keep an eye out at volunteer opportunities posted in here or in the Volunteering Opportunities and Experiences forum or here. But be wary and check and double check that they are legit!

It depends on what you mean. If you mean that they will pay for you housing and living expenses, it is possible but mostly if you are well qualified in specific fields and can stay for a few months. If you mean that you don't have to pay thousands of dollars that are charged by for profit international volunteer placement companies, yes it is very easy to find your own placements without the huge fees. The big problem is that the for profit companies have a large marketing budget so they are by far the easiest to find. If you need help finding a project in Tanzania, send me an message stating the duration of your stay, your preferred project type (school, women's projects, HIV, etc) and I can put you in contact with some local NGOs. Best wishes.

Hi. I'm Jayne and just started a one year engagement with an organization in southwest Uganda, Uganda Rural Community Support Foundation (URCSF). Here is their website: URCSF

I also started a blog that will give you first hand my 10 days of experience. I came in from the USA. My blog

I am so very happy and supportive of this NGO. I know you would not be disappointed to come here.

Costs are minimal, in my book... $300 USD per month or less gets you room & board.

Let me know if I can answer any further questions for you.

Regards, Jayne
