Nominate me as a Local Expert

I just bought a ticket to Bogota on a whim and I'm planning on meeting friends in Guayaquil. I speak Spanish and my itinerary is open. I figured I'll visit colombia, ecuador and peru at minimum and I'd love to hit bolivia, but I think time is tight with only 5 weeks. I've been to brasil and argentina before and only hit the big things there and still thoroughly enjoyed it.

What would you say would be some good places to hit for a 27/m from USA who is currently unemployed? I would guess I want to hit macchu picchu - but I'm guessing there might be some flights necessary if I want to hit the good things - as I'm massively understimating travel times.

Also if anyone's gonna be in the area up until late november - let me know happy.gif

I can't comment on your starting point & Columbia/Ecuador as I didn't make it there yet sad.gif

But try not to miss Macchu Picchu - if you're tight on time, no need to trek, you can go by train from Cusco, but still allow 2 days round trip!

Huacachina for the sandboarding is the second most thing I wouldn't miss in Peru!

Bolivia: Death Road bike ride & the silver mines of Potosi and the Uyuni salt flats are my top 3!!!

Me and my girlfriend will be in Valparaiso on 12/8 and flying out of Lima on 12/23. In between, we'll be seeing Santiago, the Colchagua valley, Pucon, and Arica in Chile then on to Arequipe and Lima. You're more than welcome to join us on our Chilean leg. We are considering renting a car but would make more sense if we found someone to partner up with to help with cost.
