Hi,

as part of our honeymoon we are planning to spend a week in Maldives.

We are looking for the right resort. Our "basics requests" are:

1. Incredible water bungalow
2. Small small small resort
3. Five stars or more
4. Total privacy

With that in mind and after some due diligence we are now considering Cocoa Island or Soneva Gili. What do you think? Which one should we go for? Maybe another resort?

If we go to the Cocoa we would opt for a one room villa.
However if we decide SG, we have no idea: any tips on the right jetty and room type?

my recommendation: yes soneva gili is an awesome place! an option for you to choose is: Naladhu Island Resort ! A resort specially for romantic and honeymoon specials!

Thank you, I just have one question, do you know if Naladhu has water bungalows or they are just beach houses?

Naladhu has Ocean Rooms, where it's actually not the tradditional "Water Bungalow" - They have a very unique room where there is a wooden deck which is extended over the waves rolling beneath! a breath taking moment for i assure!

Hi again,

still struggling between Cocoa and Soneva as the first quotations are proving not to have significant price differences.

We like very much sailing (hobie cat 18 or similar) in catamaran. Does anyone know if Cocoa or Soneva Gili offer this activity as their water sports. and if so, do you have any idea as to the price (if any) for using/renting the boats?

I couldnt find any info in their webs. Thank you again!!!

You've an excellent short list, - both are fantastic islands....... and congratulations on your forthcoming marriage.

There is hobbycat sailing options on Soneva Gili - don't have prices I am afraid, but contact the island - soneva_g@oceanparadise.com.mv and am sure they will be able to assist you.

For Cocoa they do offer catamarn sailing again prices can be obtained from res@cocoaisland.como.bz

Cocoa island is part of a chain, there are other destinatinos available within the Como Group. Soneva has Soneva Fushi and Gili, so part of Six Senses.

To be fair, both have are excellent islands, and its very diificult to say which is better. If I was you, I would write 10 things that are most important to you from your honeymoon, eg, activities, room type, spa, facilities ect, and then which ever one scores the highest is the one that you go for.

Do consider your transfer, speedboats transfer are offered by Soneva, which operate 24hours a day. Seaplane transfers which are provided by Cocoa can only operate in the hours of daylight, so depending on your connecting international flight, may mean you leave the island a little earlier than you would have perhaps expected. You will either have a wait at the airport, or you can go along to the airport hotel and pay for a day room.
