Anyone know what the sketch is on arrival in Jakarta recently? Their embassy homepage says you can get 30-day on arrival (I'm a Brit) but have to have proof of funds and letter from your employer to confirm return. Is this really enforced? I'm off there soon and don't have such a letter, but do have onward flight ticket to KL. Loadsa places say this and don't enfore it but I don't fancy being stuck.

I am not 100% sure since I have not gone yet, and my research is only from what I have read for US citizens, which is probably the same for UK citizens, but I would think that proof of onward travel is more than plenty.

It seems that country sometimes have proof of sufficient funds or letter from an employer as an alternative to proof of onward travel because there is a logical deduction that if you have money or are employed then you will not stay to try and work in their country.

You can email the embassy to be sure, but it is not that helpful sometimes. The Brazilian visa requirement is very similar, where sufficient funds is given in lieu of onward travel [at least what they told me when I emailed them], but it is more enforced by the airlines than border agents. Either way, an onward flight is probably the best thing you can get, so you should have no issue.

If anyone else searches this, you don't need a thing. Just the $25 for the visa and the blank page in the passport. You do get sprayed by a swine flu disinfectant though!

haha, nice! I'm going there in August hopefully they wont still be spraying for swine flu.

I believe if you just have a return ticket with a confirmed date you should be fine. The government is beginning to "enforce" immigration laws after the tsunami introduced hundreds of expatriates waiting for the chance to work in the country with few papers. I lived there for 9 years.
