So this is out of pure curiosity and a trip a decade away... but I've always had a spark of interest in Zaire's wildlife, particularly that they have Okapis.

From what I gathered, traveling to the Democratic Republic of the Congo isn't really safe though.

In the interest of curiosity though, is there any sort of good access to the wildlife there? Tours? Etc?

Hi I'm actually going in Sept 2010 to see Okapi's and whatever else strange and startling they have.
I'm not going on a tour I'm just getting a flight to Rwnada making my way to the boarder then crossing in to Goma, I'm aranging to pay a local $30 a day to come with me so I can at least communicate and hopefully a loacl will mean i dont get hassel ...well hopefully.
Will be glad to update you on my return

Yeah I watched a Vice documentary on the Congo recently, it makes the place look quite dangerous. Take care!
