Hi
I will be travelling to Sri Lanka in September 2008 and as I will only be staying for a short period I wondered if anyone had any "Must See" places to reccommend. I will be staying in Columbo for 1 night then to Dambulla for 3 nights, Kandy for 2 nights & Nuwara Eliya for 1 night. My trip then continues to the South West Coast for 7 nights.
Any suggestions very welcome.

You can click on the cities you want to visit, and there will be a whole list of things to do, with reviews and stuff, etc. etc.

As far as I can see,you are missing the following.
1.The elephant orphanage at Pinnawala
2.The ruins of the ancient city of Polonnaruwa.
3.Sigiriya Rock.

If you planning holiday to Sri Lanka do not miss 7 things,
1. Golden Beaches – all around island but specially Arugambay, Bentota, Hikkaduwa, Nilaveli, Unawatuna
2. Elephant – try to see wild elephant Yala, Minneriya and many more(Sri lanka not just elephant there are many animals Birds, leopard, many reptiles and more but at least try to see elephant)
3. Heritage- Don’t miss 2500 years old stuff. Anuradhapura, polonnaruwa, Dambulla, Sigriya or Kandy
4. Sea foods-there is much type of sea foods all around Island cost.
5. Shopping – Many thing to shopping Tea, Mask, Jams, and many more

6. Tea state- Don’t miss hill country and visit tea factory & tries delicious Ceylon tea.

I can tell you about some nice places to see in Colombo. I only stayed in Colombo at a hotel that I booked heavily discounted from RihlaPrime.com. My opinion is that the Independence Hall is worth seeing. Also, St. Paul's Church Milagiriya has an impressive architecture. The Galle Face Green is amazing garden. In addition the Edwardian style old General Post Office and the National Museum of Colombo are interesting. I hope you will have the time to see them all!
