Mercer releases its list of the most livable cities in the world every year. Ottawa is number 16, I'm pretty surprised.

I thought Sydney might have been higher than 10...

I am not surprised to see Dubai missing from that list

Why do you say that? What makes it unlivable? I don't see any Middle Eastern cities on there at all actually.

For surveys of US cities only, Seattle has been on the top of the list many times. However, many Seattlites don't like this idea because they don't want more people coming in. The area is so crowded as is. New housing is constantly under construction to handle the growing population. More & more resources & efforts are going to handling the growing traffic volume. Yet more people keep arriving.

Bern and Vienna make perfect sense- those cities are immaculate, especially Vienna. My wife would agree with Seattle, she is an Army brat and lived there for several years. Come to think of it, she would probably agree with the Germany mentions for the same reason!

Nope, my city isn't on that list. My state isn't even on that list. Any states that border my state aren't even on that list.

Good list though if I were to move next ..I'm pretty surprised Melbourne isn't on that list - Ive heard many great things about the place.....

Number 18... I would so live in Melbourne...

i think the reason Sydney isnt higher up on the list is because of the cost of living here in Sydney - it isnt cheap

Switzerland is expensive, but its beauttttiful, I would live there in a heartbeat and still wake up everyday and feel like the luckiest person ever. Sydney felt kinda cold to me - I think I would felt a bit lost and missing something if I lived there... Manly is a different story though!

Vancouver is certainly an amazing and unique place.

I believe that my country CYPRUS, and the whole of GREECE, and especially the Greek Islands are fantastic!!!

In fact I am flying to the ISLAND of KOS tomorrow morning.
I am going to explore the whole island. If anyone interested - watch out for my New Blog which is going to be full of information and photos of this Island.
I am speniding 5 nights there, and I have already given much information of this beautiful island in the first entry.

I would place TROODOS MOUNTAINS AND PROTARAS for Cyprus
And CHALKIDIKI, and SKOPELOS for Greece.

I would have thought Sydney would be much higher than 10 too! I know Vienna, Zurich and Geneva have great reputations, however the fact that Sydney has a little bit of everything surely should give it the edge!

Has anyone been to all the places on the Top 10? I've been to 4 and Sydney would be my number one with Munich second. Although I was in Munich for the Weis'n so not sure what it's like without the atmosphere.

According to the Economist Intelligence Unit's most recent liveability cities in Canada, Australia, Austria, Finland and New Zealand as the ideal destinations, thanks to a widespread availability of goods and services, low personal risk, and an effective infrastructure. It does not take into account climate or the cost of living as a factor in 'liveability.'
