Hi. I picked up a copy of a recent Myanmar Lonely Planet yesterday.

As some of you have already figured out, I am usually no great fan of LP publications, but I must say the first number of pages in the Myanmar book were well written and researched and gave a good overview of both sides of the "go or not go" argument.

So well done to LP for that.

Not sure if the rest of the book is worth anything. But those first few pages were good.

Well that's good to hear. Did you ever work anything out with Myanmar? I remember you were trying to help out during the cyclone, but I can't remember if you actually ended up going...

I couldn't get a visa to get into Myanmar. But I did collect some money from friends and buy goods that I got in via other channels and also got some money in to people that were helping. Not a lot, but hopefully helpful.

I am going in November. I like the LP series. I am not sure sanctions work as they tend to punish the people not the leaders. I have 2 contacts and will mitigate any $$ going to the military govt by donating to 2 schools

Hey guys, I'm going on 3 September 2008. My visa got approved and tickets booked. I think it's easier for Asians to go but my team will be going as tourists instead of relief workers just so it'll be easier for us to get in. Is there any reports you would like me to bring back? I'll be going to the cyclone hit areas too.

I'd be interested in hearing anything you have to report and anything you find interesting.

hello everybody ,
i am happy to hear and appreciate your interest on Myanmar's Nargis . i am from Myanamar.
Now myanmar Gov opens visa for visitors who wants to visit at those areas through one of the Maynamar agents ( EXOTISMMO ). by connecting that you could visit and help those victims .
