If money is not a consideration, my choice would be Switzerland.

I like its multi-lingual, multi-cultural, orderly society. It is a beautiuful country with intense scenery.

There is easy access to other parts of Europe since it is connected to the French, German and Italian high speed train systems.

Besides, Shania Twain has all the money, and she chose Switzerland over Timmins, Ontario.

p.s. just in case, I do want to check out Chaing Rai in Thailand

...and if we had all that money we could benefit from Switzerland's tax free status!

Although I haven't actually been there [yet!], I agree that Switzerland sounds like a fantastic place to be.

After a visit a couple of days ago I wouldn't mind living in Thailand's Switzerland.

The King's mother used to live in Switzerland. When she moved back to Thailand to live she built her house in the mountains in Northern Chiang Rai province. Often then referred to as the Switzerland of Thailand or something like that. It is a beautiful place she built and a nice area.

Yeah Switzerland is bee-you-tee-full... but, it goes against my "no snow" rule...

Ah! I love this topic! So does that mean it's like Switzerland but with no snow???

It did snow in 1955. But yes, mainly no snow.

I am not sure exactly how much like Switzerland it is, but it is nice. I sort of suspect it is not very Swiss at all. Has some nice mountains though. Has some Hill Tribe people. Thai food available. Myanmar and Laos are just a short distance away. Actually China and Vietnam aren't that far either.

At the risk of offending any "Travelbloggers" in Timmins, Ontario - yes, that was definitely intended as a joke.

This north-eastern Ontario boom-or-bust mining town is the home of Shania Twain. It is probably a great place to come from but not to move to.

If the new Shania Twain Center is any indication, the town has perhaps improved a lot since I was there last, fourty years ago.

Let's hear from Timmins, Ontario ---

I bet the cyclists want to live in Holland, which is a flat as a pancake. Some time ago I read about a guided tour of Holland on roller blades. Sounded pretty cool.

On the contrary, all the cyclists I know want to live in the valleys so they can tackle all the challenging hills and be "at one with nature" or something like that.

My reasoning behind Australia is pretty much the outdoorsy culture and the sporting atmosphere they have over there... so quite weather and terrain dependent, but the attitude of the people also helps.

Where are you living now, lobo?

I lived in beautiful Ottawa for fourty years and I am now living (since 2006) in Prince George, BC. (ouch!)

While most of BC is extremely beautiful, the same cannot be said for Prince George and the area.

It is not Timmins, Ontario but ……

So, it is a long way from Switzerland and a great cause for me to keep traveling.

What are you doing there?

Japan does sound very nice. I am very interested in Japan as well. It seems to have everything you need there! Delicious fish, nice biking and hiking... and probably camping too?

Generally, the reason people move to Prince George, BC is for a job. In our case, it was my spouse who was changing her career and job. As for myself, I am a retired high school teacher (Gloucester High School in Ottawa) and I work here as an occasional teacher which is something I can do anywhere.

We were hoping to move to Victoria or Vancouver. I feared we might end up in Moose Groin, Saskatchewan, so Prince George is not that bad - until further notice.

Moose Groin? I can't believe it!

Japan sounds very nice, but however would a US$ earning person be able to afford to live there?

I was just touring around Canada on a whole bunch of trains, I think I spent one night there. Very boring, yes, very beautiful, also yes, very cold, double yes.
