I was reading an article concerning a thread of rats in U.K.
Are we doing anything to avoid this in the places where we live?

The summary of the article says the following......

Britain now has more rats than people, with the trend set to continue unless households cut down on food waste.
This happened because councils have stopped weekly bin collecting, along with mild winters and flooding.

The worst affected city is York, which has seen its rat population rise by 208% in a year. Other areas to see a significant increase in infestation include Exeter and Salford.
It is estimated that there are 65 to 80 million rats in Britain compared to around 60m humans.

National Pest Technicians Association director told The Daily Mirror In 30 years Ive never known such a big rat population and there will be an epidemic if people dont reduce food waste
RECYCLING IS VITAL in the area. Just putting extra food scraps on compost heaps means fantastic breeding grounds for rats to spread disease.

But.... I thought composting was better than throwing the food scraps in the garbage. So what if you get rats? You save room in the landfill and get free soil out of the deal...

If you have been following the media recently, some of the UK rat population can be found at the House of Commons fiddling their expenses!

It would help if we had bins. Around us we have to dump our bin bags on the street for collection once a week and they get torn to shreds over night by foxes.
