I really enjoy reading Lucky's travelpods. He has a pretty cool writing style and I felt like I knew him even before I met him because he is so genuine.

Also, do a search for the word VOLUNTEER and read some of the results. There is MUCH inspiration to be found in there.

Ok so it's not exactly a travelpod blog, but it's close.
This is an awesome account of an epic journey across Africa by 2 guys (one of which is travelpod member jamjamdave)

The African Wanderers

I love the bit where they find out there is no transport across the jungle for 225km and they're just like, "Well, we'll just walk then!"

as this is a 'best and worst of' branch.. i'd like to contribute that the worst travelpods are the ones where they have signed up only to post a comment on someones blog...

sorry for the moan..

for the best travelpod.. i'd nominate keils as her writing gets you well involved with her emotion and travels whilst keeping it real for 'peeps' from london.. it's a shame though as her blog still gets alot of hits even though she hasn't updated since early last year..

One of the best travelpods I have come across so far has to be by elviejo. Its one of the most unusual reads I've seen on travelpod. The language is like something straight out of a Mark Twain novel.

And whats best about it is that there are no far flung destinations or exotic deserted islands, just descriptions of places near where he lives. Goes to show that 'travelling' doesn't have to involve jet setting across the planet. There's plenty to see and do in your own back yard.

Just a very charming blog.

As much as I want to say mine are great (well actually, I think they are great !!!), I prefer Lucinates - Lucinate. They give good info about the history of a city and she has some good stories. I also have to be biased as she is my girlfriend !!!!!

Admire your modesty Dave though I've gotta say I agree smile.gif

I've spent a lot of time with my chin in my hands chuckling and cringing at some of the stuff you've got up to and into - it's been a great read, and totally natural. Much the same for Lucinate's.

Another blog I found a while back that always has me in fits is one by Simon Scriver, plenty of random belly laughs!

Fav travelpods would have to include Carmellas of course along with Iraleigh. I love reading their blogs. I'm sure everyone has already read the feast Carmella dishes up for us so there is no need to comment any further. I guess many more should read Iraleigh's blog. His writing is so desctiptive and colourful and his photos are probably the the best on travelpod that I've come accross. It helps that I've been to many of the places he has visited and his writing makes my memories so full of colour.

Another fav is garyelphick. I have no idea how I came accross this guy but I can't help being drawn back just to see if he is actually still alive or how many times he has lost his passport etc. Everyone should read at least one of his entries just for the experience.
I'm sitting in China and outside my window there are many signs I can not read or understand. This guy does his best to write English, but when I read it it's like looking out my window. I have no idea how he has made it so far being so drunk all the time but I'm sure he will make it home safe. If you choose to read you'll begin to ponder the hows and whys of some people.

For pure quality of laughs, there are two travelpods that I´ve come across.

Firstly, as previously recommended, is Siscri´s travelpod. I started reading his pod before my last trip and then I met him by chance in a hostel in Blenheim, NZ. Small world.

Secondly, a small but very very funny pod. A traveller that I met in Burma and then read his travelpod, perhaps the more common way round! It´s Stain´s pod.

As for worst pods. They´re not hard to find! I really hate the phrase "We couldn´t do The Taj/Machu Picchu/Sydney justice, so we´ll let the pictures do the talking."

Cheers,
Ron.

The best travel pod I've read so far is el condor. Not only because of the unique places he's visiting (as we speak) but also because of the great writing skills he demonstrates entry after entry. I've always thought that a good writer can convey a great complicated thought in a short simple sentence, and he does exactly that. Highly recomended reading!

Hey I found a cool site to use as an alternative to travel pods. There is a great travel podcast on Podzinger by Rick Steves. It has a lot of tips and good advice for travellers, especially those travelling to Europe. You can find it here:

I've looked at her blog a few times and it is amazingly well written. On the subjects of best blogs I can't add mine as for some reason it's crept into the top 5! I enjoy any blog that can make me laugh/smile biggrin.gif
