I'll be in The Bahamas in July. First time goin', I'm stoked! Few friends and I are splitting the costs on a Vacation property around Cable Beach. I keep hearing about the road construction though. Will I need a car?? I was hoping to grab some groceries, since we can't afford to eat out every night. And of course, hit the beach!

I wouldn't say so. Navigating the roads these days is dangerous for locals, let alone tourists. Especially if this is our first trip here.

You can purchase a day pass for access to the beaches of one of the hotels on Cable Beach. (Prices vary. Compass Point charges $20. Sheraton charges $25, etc. Depends on where your property is as to whether its in walking distance or a short cab or bus ride away. Jitneys (Bus service) is 1.25 per trip. ) And you can avoid the food stores altogether by ordering online with FoodStore2Go. Their delivery fee is $9. Just make sure to specify where your Vacation Property is located and they should have no problems getting it to you.

Hope you enjoy your vacation in July!

I wouldn't agree with Bahamianlily, driving is quite safe in Bahamas. You can get a car at cheaper rate than the day pass with the rates as low as $19 from www.bahamascarsrental.com. I have booked from them quite a number of times now and never had a problem with them. You would easily be able to go the grocery store and even it would reduce your expenses since you wouldn't have to order daily from outside. They even do the pick ups for you, you just need to tell them where you need the car and you can leave it anywhere too.

Enjoy your trip.. !!
