I live about 20 minutes away from Touchdown Jesus. I am really upset that they are rebuilding. The fact that more than a million dollars has been spent on something so incredibly wrong to build is unsettling. I drove by the skeleton of it the other day, kind of eerie.

I'll have to go see the Buddha when I'm in Hong Kong in October.

Look at it this way, the people of Paris hated the Eiffel Tower.

I don't think they are quite comparable. Building the statue as a religious icon and spending that much money on it just makes me think it could be put to better use.

I see where you're coming from. To me, the hypocrisy (both in monetary and religious terms) is astounding..

"Thou shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth."

Fun list. I don't have the energy to think about the pros and cons of rebuilding Touchdown Jesus though. lol

I have only been to the Statue of Liberty...will have to see some of the others at some point. smile.gif

There was a HUGE Buddha statue I saw on the river in Bangkok though. Sorry I don't have the name of it right now.
