Hi i'm in Thailand and have an hsbc visa debit card, all the machines i have tried want to charge me 150 bhat for withdrawing money, is there a way to avoid this each time??

It's the Thai banks adding the fee. this is in addition to any fees that your bank may charge..

Its a rule of banking system you'll have to pay these service charges.

For many years, Thai banks ignored this rule. Many have become quite spoiled. April, last year, was when this fee was introduced.

For people living here, like me, who's money comes in USDs, the fee is a bit of a pain.

It's not actually a rule just something they brought in. However not all banks charge this. I can't tell you at this point which don't charge as it's constantly changing. Last check Bank of Ayyuthaya didn't charge.
If you want to exchange cash bank of bangkok give best baht exchange rates normally.

If I was on holiday, this fee wouldn't make or break my stay. Unfortunately, all my money is affected by it.

Every time I hear of these workarounds, or banks that don't charge, I check it out. Every time it has come up null and void.

Again i'm sorry i'm not 100% sure which bank but I know some will let you withdraw 25,000 baht a go.

I'll correct my earlier bank recommendation mistake and have another pop with: Aeon Bank.

My own bank won't allow 25,000 baht withdrawals. But,...

... I just got back from using an AEON ATM. To my shock, not only was there no fee, the rates was better than Super Rich !

here is the deal......

this is just another display of thai racism towards westerners. yes i suppose this seems a bit harsh but remember that this 150 baht fee is only applied to foreign atm cards. if you have a thai bank account then the fee is not imposed. do not confuse this fee with what your bank charges you for using an atm outside of your network or the international fee that is usually imposed by your home bank. this 150 baht charge is on top of all of these other fees and is above and beyond what an average thai person can afford since the minimum wage is 206 baht a day here in the land of smiles. try and imagine you make 200 baht a day and you have to pay 150 baht atm fee???????? the banks know that they could never make money in this fashion so they act as parasites on the "rich" farang

I have found this bank Def did Not Charge me, i have a plus account though so maybe that makes a different, all the other banks charged.
