Newbie Group: Members Posts: 9 Joined: 31-May 06 From: Texas, U.S.A. Member No.: 933 Nominate me as a Local Expert	Any advice on just renting a car and driving it around (without a driver)? The driving shouldn't be a big deal as I have driven in the wildest traffic imaginable - Saudi, Vietnam, China, India. Are the roads decent? Any signs in English? Cheers!

If you had driven in India sri lanka will be so easy. English are wildly spoken and generally sign boards also written in English. Driving is comparatively slow (average 50 – 70 km per hour) so some people might get depressed. Finding roads are not that difficult as each name board of the shop will have its address on it. there are some one-way road in metropolitan areas must be aware of it.

Voyager Group: Local Expert Posts: 65 Joined: 2-June 08 Member No.: 192295	99% of the signs are in English, so from that perspective you will be fine..... make sure your the car you hire has adequate insurance, and make sure that the horn works on the car - its the most imporant element of the car..... Good luck with driving in Sri Lanka, away from the main towns and major routes you should be fine - but rather you than me!
