I know we've got a thread or two running on a couple of these issues, I just wondered how bad different areas are getting over the current aggro. Tomorrow is Songkhran, a day of celebration, yet there are many people who aren't necessarily in the jovial position you might expect. I've just received this via email from a close friend in Bangkok:

"Scott

How are you and how about situation over there ?
Now in BKK very bad but not aroud my shop area.
I feel very sad and shy to foreigner cause now Thai people fighting together.
I would have magic for make something about our country.
If i have magic , I will make peachful in the world.
I would love every body love together.

So maybe The SongKran day this year it not happy for every body.
Cause we can't go out to join Songkran day.Now the situation is danger.

Please take care your self.

Miss you and every body"

Well that's Thonburi in Bangkok. How are things where you are?

Merry Songkran Neil!

They tossed in gunfire as a bonus!

I don't know about water cannons, but the Thai police and military have plenty of teargas.

Unfortunately, teargas isn't a "smart" weapon. It covers large areas and affects many. The PAD would really become unpopular if it starting gassing downtown. It might just wash away the bystander's "mai pen rai" attitude and replace it with more hostility.

Fortunately, at 4am, there are less bystanders.

------

Most of Bangkok is still fine. But anyone, downtown, needs to keep current on events taking place. This is especially true for those trying to travel crosstown.

Your hotel / guest house staff are most likely monitoring the events. Ask for assistance before traveling around town.

Has King Bhumibol not come out and tried to sooth this over?

Currently traveling the world for work...with a few extra fiddleybits thrown in to keep it new...it's the cheapest way to go!!!

Quote from my friend Chuck, who spent 5 months riding his bicycle all the way around the USA - "Nobody says you have to order an entree in the restaurant of life, you'll only be here once! Order the sampler, try as many as you can before you're full; odds are one (of) the items on this menu does more for you than you ever thought. And if I'm wrong, tell the waiter that his menu sucks, throw the cook aside and invent your own masterpiece. Just pour 'em all in, all your favorite ingredients. With enough imagination, any combination will work -- there are no recipes for the paths still awaiting discovery."
