Nominate me as a Local Expert

Hi all, new to this but thought I'd get as much information as possible.

Im Flying into San Pedro Sula on Saturday, and staying the night in a hotel before travelling to Utila on the Sunday. I have been advised i need to get a coach from SAP to La Ceiba and then a ferry across to Utila.

Having done a bit of research i believe the best way is to catch the hedmanalas coach at 6am from SAP then get the 9.30am crossing from La Ceibe using the Utila Princess.

Has anyone done this trip before, and know if this schedule is feasibile? (i.e. if theres enough time between the two to ensure i make the ferry from the bus stop) Also how easy is it to get taxis from my hotel to the bus stop and from the bus stop to the ferry port?

Any help or information would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Matt

Although I haven't done the trip, your planning looks sound. There will be no problem getting a taxi from your hotel to the Hedman Alas bus station even at that early hour.

One thing you will see plenty of all the time are taxis. Be sure you settle on the price before entering the vehicle. 15/20 Lempira (about $ .80/1.00 USD) is the standard fare within the downtown area at daytime. There are hundreds of taxis running around town at all times all looking for your business. If you don't like the price you are being told simply tell the taxi driver no thanks. There will be another one along in 30 seconds.

Buses are generally on time, so you should arrive in La Ceiba with plenty of time for the ferry. La Ceiba is not a huge town, so the bus station won't be far from the ferry.

Enjoy Utila!
