I really do think that in Scotland we keep Burns Night very much to ourselves! Oh yes, the Rotary Clubs, Caledonian Societies, Charitable Organisations all raise lots of money for good causes and that's fantastic but what about Burns Night as an opportunity to attract tourists in the winter? IT is largely overlooked and there are few promotions involving this most historic night in the Scottish calendar. It has all the ingredients that visitors to our country so enjoy - good food - the National Dish, no less! - Scotsh whisky, tradition, dressing-up in kilts and the celebration of our National Poet, the wonderful Rabbie Burns. I think a concerted effort needs to be made by tour operators to get people visiting Scotland at this time - come on guys, set up some special deals. Rob www.bespokescotlandtours.com

I think that's a great idea, and that the snow season for skiing and snowboarding in Aviemore could be a good avenue to encourage visitors to come for Burns night. I do think its well celebrated around the world, but you're right, for the full experience, some poetry, haggis and a wee ceilidh you need to come to Scotland for it. Hoots mon!
