There was just a post put in the LP website (I wasn't reading it - but it got sent to me as it has to do with volunteering) - that a Cambodian man sent in.

He wanted to ward people of orphanaes that are run as tourist attractions. Perhaps you have seen the signs in a guesthouse?

The writer warned people that these places are run as a business and don't take care of the kids. Or in one case he mentioned the kids on show were just normal kids from the local village.

Anyway - I personally don't know - but sounds feasible. So please be aware and feel free to write in about your experiences. Was it a true orphanage that you stayed in for a long time. Was it suspect? Did the manager drive a mercedes?

Pretty sad world we are living in sometimes. But pretty amazing people and things at other times too.

See ya

Hi,

Not all orphanages are scams. Read this travelpod about my daughter in law's experiences

Enjoy her story!!

OH!!! I definitely didn't want to give the impression that all orphanages were scams - i have just visited two very impressive ones in Mae Sai, Chiang Rai, Thailand if any one is interested.

Just wanted to warn people to be cautious of one that may be promoted more heavily than you would normally expect. Be cautious - not saying don't go - because you may be greatly helping some kids.

OK, it is bed time. I haven't read that link yet, but I will hopefully tomorrow.

Take care.

Paul, I knew that you did not mean that they were all scams but I thought showing a good one would be good.

That's actually really great advice. I think for some of us orphanages don't ring a bell for a possible scam until maybe you get scammed. Thanks Paul.
