Hi,
I'm new to travelpod and I was wondering if a blog has to be in English or not?

Thanks!

Really? I write in German language and got some nasty charakters in my blog. Even if I use ü instead of for example.

Are the bad characters only showing up on your "About this blog" section?

http://www.travelpod.com/travel-blog/ulf/1/tpod.html

Or did you also see them in one of your entries?

We'll have the "About this blog" section fixed up right away.

Thanks for letting us know!

Hi Eric,

until now bad characters only showing up on the "About this blog" section. They are fixed if I use ü (HTML entities) instead of for example, but after some days entities are removed.

Hi Ulf, I just wanted to let you know that we fixed up the issue with the "About this blog" section. You should never need to use html entities on TravelPod, so go ahead and type normally.

Thanks for reporting the bug!

Happy travels!

Hi, I have a similar problem but I'm not sure if it's Travelblog's issue or not.

If the title of my blog contains any of our "special" characters (č, , ), when I publish it on Facebook, those letters are not showed in a proper way but in HTML code. Any suggestion?

THank you,
Ursa

Hi Ursa,

I just did a quick test using some of your titles and they all showed up correctly on Facebook.

Is there one title in specific that is causing you problems?

Are you using the Notes feature or are you posting your entries onto your wall through TravelPod's "Send notification" feature?

Thanks for any details you can provide.

Hi Eric, thanks for your reply. I found a title - the city actually - that wasn't shown correct (please see picture) - it was when my friend "liked" the post on the blog and it appeared on FB. Any ideas?

Otherwise I am using TravelPod's "Send notification" feature - I hope this is fine. If I come across any other difficulties, I'll let you know.

BR, Ursa

Ah, I was wondering why I couldn't get it to break. blow.gif

I'll have to take a closer look, but I'm not sure what Facebook is up to.

Yes, using the Send Notification page is just fine.

Hi Eric, any news on the language issue?

Meanwhile I also noticed that I cannot use č, and letters for my photo titles. Any recommendations?

Thanks,
Ursa

Hi!

Sorry for the delay in answering.

I just created a test entry titled "č, and " and then posted it Facebook and the characters showed up correctly. Can you confirm that it's still not working for you? Perhaps Facebook has fixed something since we started looking at this problem.

As for the picture titles, I just tested it out with the title "č, and " and the characters look to be displayed correctly in all spots. Can you let me know what you mean by "cannot use č, and "?

It looks like you're having a great trip! Vietnam was one of my favourites.

I have some problems with language too.
When I upload the pictures with titles including characters as "", "" and "" (among others used in Portuguese) I must edit it again using "Edit Pictures & Videos", because they appear as "ú", "ç" and "é". After the first editing in EP&V, the problem appears to be solved definitively.

Hi Robson,

Are you using the basic or advanced uploader? I just tried out a few test with an image named ".jpg" and when I uploaded it using either method, the title was correct.

Perhaps you could provide a bit more detail about the steps you're taking and I'm sure we'll be able to sort this out.

Hi Eric,

let me explain it step by step.

I use Google Chrome.

I went to one of my entries.
http://www.travelpod.com/dashboard/entry/1/1306359994

Upload Pictures & Videos - advanced uploader.

Gave the following title
0123456789012345678901234567890

Back to my list of entries

Edit pictures

What I saw was:
ÁÉÍÓÚáéíóúÃÕãõâêîôû012345678901
The types are mixed and some information was lost.

Didn't change a thing and clicked "Save Changes"

Edit Details & History

Save draft

Preview this entry and saw
012345678901
http://www.travelpod.com/travel-blog-entri...ml?view=preview

The inicial types are right but some information was lost.

Tryed again "Edit Pictures & Videos"
Now types are correct. Information missed.
012345678901

Edited it as the full sentence "0123456789012345678901234567890", saved and from now on everything was Ok.

So... I always must use "Edit Pictures & Videos" at least once to correct the types.

I hope now you can test the same way I did and think about it.

Best Regards,
Robson.

Thank you Eric, it's working fine now.
There is another place where the Types are not right.
It's less urgent because It's less used and is not a public area...
I'm telling about the "your stats" area. "Your most popular travel blogs"

I have problems with cyrillic posts. I try to post trough email in cyrillic characthers, but it was incorrect in my post, text was like this http://www.travelpod.com/dashboard/entry/1/1312874705. Then I try make a direct post trough New entry and there problem with title. Instead of "Зимняя Европа: Из Барселоны в Берлин" there only "Зимняя Е": http://www.travelpod.com/dashboard/entry/1/1312909366
Can you fix this?

Egor.

blow.gif Too good to be true.

This is a pretty technical issue that is quite tricky to solve because it involves a database change that would require us to take the site offline. blink.gif

If you're interested in the details, Cyrillic characters require 4 to 6 times the amount of space to store in the database and our title field can only support 50 latin characters. This means that it can currently only hold 8 or 9 cyrillic characters.

I can't tell you when we'll be able to schedule this fix, but at least you're aware of why your title is being truncated. Hopefully you can work around it for the time being.
