I'll be in Cape Town in August and wanted to find out what hostels people recommend. I've been looking at the Inn Long Street and Cape Town Backpackers. Does anyone have any suggestions or comments about those hostels or any others in Cape Town?

Thanks

Cheryl

I stayed at Big Blue and really enjoyed my time there. Its in a good location as well.

There was another one called Ashanti but I think it was more of a party place.

Let us know how you go smile.gif

Cape Town Backpackers is nice and quiet, although sligtly farther away from the centre of town. Long Street Backpackers is more noisy but right in the heart of the city. Staff are friendly and they can organise a shuttle to the airport. It's greta to stay on Long Street as it gets cornered off at night and becomes a place full of pedestrians. If you are staying at a hostel on this street you can sit on the balcony and watch the night time activities unravel.

Either way - CT has lots of hostels so why not try a couple? You can always book for one night and move on if you want a quieter / noisier place! Also, bring your sleeping bag as it is cold this time of year at night.

Have fun,
Claire

Hiya.

I was in Cape Town in December 2006 and stayed at The Backpack on New Church Street. Its about a 5 minute walk from Long Street and is one of the nicest hostels I have ever stayed in - more like a B&B really.

They have a really good website at http://www.backpackers.co.za/

Enjoy your trip.

Kate.
