Biggest competitor to World Nomads?

My 1st question is who is the biggest competitor to World Nomads travel insurance?

The reason justifies my 2nd question, or problem?

World Nomads requires all customers currently traveling to hold Provincial heath insurance (from back home). In my case, Canada, and the province of British Columbia.

I don't want to go back there, and my provincial health insurance is expired. I have no insurance of any kind.

Do I have to contact BC insurance and tell them I need insurance again just to apply for World Nomad's international travel insurance, or can I find an equivalent to World Nomads that will allow me to open a policy (while on the road, and via the net), without the need of provincial insurance from back home.

I like World nOmads because they have an easy to use site, can make claims online, offer protection for the most important things (and then some), and because they offer renewable 6-month policies (good for me because I keep on traveling without the desire to return home).

So who to sign travel insurance with? I need to do this fast as I don't like the idea of globetrotting without insurance.

I just clicked on "Travel Insurance" in the top right hand corner and here's what I got. There are all kinds of competing companies:

Travel insurance depends on which country you are living in and where you want to go.

Hi,

I'm in the same boat - Albertan with expired Alberta Health Care and no desire to spend much time there this year.

Did you find an alternative to Worldnomads that doesn't require provincial health care?

One tip I was given I thought I'd share is to get emergency coverage with a high deductible and a low monthly rate... and keep the deductible amount in savings in case of an emergency.

Appreciate your insights!
