Im coming home (kingston, Ontario) for the month of december, and am unlikely to be happy just staying at home...

can anyone recommend a nice weekend retreat in december for a reasonable price? Im not a big downhill skiier, but am not adverse to being outside...

However, indoors is also great! (we are talking Canada after all!)

This is true...I am not a skier but all my friends are. I still enjoy going with them to the mountains as there is something so pristine and magical about them in the wintertime...

i stayed at a great place just outside algonquin provincial park called adventure lodge.

i'm not sure what the prices were like, as i was treated, but the accommodation, scenery, food and welcome were great....

it was completely chilled out (no pun intended), and the first time i've ever experienced my nostril hairs literally freezing as i breathed (approx -18c)...lol

we went for walks in the park, saw some beautiful views, and made a snow angel, amongst many other things... smile.gif

oh, it was fantastic biggrin.gif it was the first snow angel i'd done in years, and looking at my itinerary, it could well be canada when i do my next one...

if you go to thellie.co.uk you can see photos of more canada, oz and other more humble trips, (and download a shedload of good music too) feel free to browse peeps smile.gif

i was chatting to a canadian friend last night, north of toronto, when i realised that my plans, as vague as they are, are leaning more and more towards an indefinite, long term journey... and i'm happier now as the adventure gets nearer than i have been in months if not years... so if you see a tanned englishman with a big stupid grin on his face, wandering around edmonton in a couple of years time, it could well be me... smile.gif

Good on yer.

If that fails, just remember: a bit of marmite mixed with a bit of baby oil... Voila!

Tell me about it! You're not wrong Jess, the sun's lethal over here too. The lack of ozone layer doesn't help either..

UV light can reflect off the snow, making it it worse than a regular sunny day away from the snow! so remember people.. wear your sunscreen!!
