I don't believe that's true, because when I was in Chile I went to Bolivia by bus. On my way back in, the immigration rep specifically looked for the receipt attached to my passport to ensure I had paid. Well thats the first I've heard ...

I don't believe that's true, because when I was in Chile I went to Bolivia by bus. On my way back in, the immigration rep specifically looked for the receipt attached to my passport to ensure I had paid.

The fee is the "reciprocity" fee for Americans to enter Chile. (Used to be only $100USD) It is payable at the port of entry, no matter where that might be, when you get your visa paper for your passport. Here it is from the . I ...

... 036;100. The airport even had signs posted that explained how they chose which countries had to pay the reciprocity fee. It was those countries that charge Chile citizens to enter their country. Unless it's changed since 07, there is definitely a fee.

North Americans don't need a visa for either Argentina or Chile. Brazil is the only country in Latin America that requires a visa for US citizens.
