I'd spend a few days in Torres del Paine in Chile - one of the most beautiful places I've every been to: As well as a day trip to the island of Chiloe (named one of the top 100 islands in the world by National Geographic):

... is not that relevant, but I do know that you MUST be careful in Lima. Bolivia I didn't enjoy that much but I loved Chile, especially Torres del Paine. By the way, even if Macchu Picchu is closed, Cuzco is certainly worth a visit for several days.

... 'll just have to explain what happened to the border guards. I'm sure they could infer what happened anyway, by just looking at the printed date on your passport. It would probably also help if you saved your boarding passes or tickets into Chile.
