Hi guys, I just heard about the state of emergency, how will that affect the TravelPod meetup in Bangkok? Do you think the restrictions on public gatherings will be lifted by October? Do they even apply to such things as dinner parties?

I live in Bangkok, eat street much of the time, and the only thing on the list that I eat is mu satay. Even when I was living in Southern California, I passed on most of that list.

Cheers for the info, that's good news. My train was fine incidentally - dropped a couple of Changs and slept like a baby, just like the Surat Thani to Bangkok, a great way to travel..

I actually quite liked Bangkok the 4-5 times I transited through there. I did absolutely nothing when I was there as I know I'll be back there sometime in the future and can see all the sights then! Plus I was templed out after being on the road ...

I agree. I think KL recently had some big protests. Would you have recommended that tourists come to Malaysia during that time? The protests in Bangkok - you are unlikely to see them as a tourist. It is safe here and you won't have a problem. Paul

Noone checked any outward tickets or asked anything about future plans when I flew from Heathrow to Bangkok last June... I don't know if its just pot luck regarding the people working at the time then or not... or if its got stricter since then.
