Eric, Sounds like you had a weird ride to Puerto....I did it and it only took 7 hours. Most buses in Mexico are pretty reliable - there must have been some road problems or something!! I think It's only about 12 hours to Cancun....

Honestly, I would skip Puerto Vallarta, Acapulco and Cancun. I've been to Oaxaca, and it was nice. I've also been to Cuernavaca and it was marvelous. Try to go somewhere that not so many people go.

... I don't think there are any actually on the hotel strip. They are all downtown. is a nice place, but it's very quiet so you might go island crazy if you stay too long. There are regular ferries from downtown Cancun. See what other think of it -
